Kakamega Sports Club's handicapped golfers are set to compete in the annual Piga Mingi tournament on Saturday.

According to the organisers, the event which will be sponsored by the Class of 2021 and AA Kenya seeks to induct rookie golfers into the game.

Led by Ivan Opakas, the organisers want each and every player to be involved in the tournament which promises thrills.

“This tourney was started by golfers with high handicaps but it is open to all golfers,” said Opakas.

He said the tournament is a tradition at the club every year, which brings together high handicapped golfers.

“It has always been a norm for new golfers in this club to organise a tournament. As a handicap 25, I will play as the lowest handicap holder,” added Opakas.

Nandi Bears’ Elly Barno is the defending champion after winning last year's edition.

Golfers from neighbouring clubs including Nandi, Eldoret, Nyanza, Thika, and Kericho have also been invited.

Opukas, who is part of the organizing crew, said he is optimistic that over 60 golfers honour the event.
