Anand Lakhani and captain Nathan Tororei lead the hunt for Kenya Amateur Golf Championship points as Eldoret Club hosts the Manchester Salver meeting this weekend.

Golfers are using the event to search for slots for the 2022 Magical Kenya Open. As a nine hole, the golfers will be subjected to 36 holes in two rounds. The series tee off on Saturday morning for a first round 18-hole before completing on Sunday with similar number of holes.

Lakhani, who has served as the club captain for different teams, is one of the top golfers at the club. Playing off handicap 4, Lakhani is expected to team up with Aron Kitur, Kennedy Serem and former captain Vandeep Grewal in pursuit for the title.

Lakhani said as much as they are playing at home, they need to to be at their best to deny visitors a chance to carry the title away.

“As home players, we need to give our best if  we are to keep the trophy at home,” said Lakhani, who only played one event during the Nandi Open Shield at Nandi Bears.

Tororei, who is the current captain, said they hope to capitalise on home advantage despite opposition from the neighbouring clubs like Kitale, Nandi Bears, Kakamega, Kericho, Kisii and Nakuru among others.

“As a club, we are well prepare and we expect a field of at least 120 golfers. The course is equally in good shape ahead of the event,” said Tororei.

He said this being his first Kenya Golf Union (KGU) event as a captain, he wants to see a successful event after missing out last year due to  coronavirus.

Other golfers to watch are— Michael Karanga from Kiambu, Nyali’s Adel Balala, John Lejirma ( Kenya Railways) and Nelson Koech (Nandi Bears), among others.

This will be a back-to-back KAGC event after last weekend’s Coast Open in Mombasa, where Balala won in level par 144 after he scored one over par 73 in the opening round and one under par 71.
