Former Kitale Golf Club captain Stephen Malakwen says he is ready to battle other top golfers for points during the Trans Nzoia Open at Kitale Golf Club.
Malakwen, who served as club captain for three seasons, says a win will be the perfect homecoming for him although he concedes it won't be easy.
“I am well prepared for the event and playing at home gives us an advantage though it has been a while since we played due to coronavirus. Playing off handicap 18 may pose a challenge for me but am ready for it,” Malakwen said.
Apart from targeting points in the Kenya Amateur Golf Championship (KAGC) series, Malakwen sees the event as an opportunity to interact and learn from lower handicap golfers.
“Playing with top golfers is part of the learning process and the main purpose is also to interact when playing on 54 holes,” he said.
He will be joined by club captain Richard Kiptum, former captain Patrice Tomno, top club golfer Philip Shiharsy, John Chemongos and immediate former captain Patrick Kae.
Series leader Michael Karanga from Kiambu, who will be seeking to consolidate his points and junior golfer Mutai Kibugu, Windsor Classic winner from Muthaiga, are also expected.
The golfers will be treated to a three-round show, two on Saturday and one on Sunday.
The event comes on back of last weekend’s Kabete Open at the Vet Lab Sports Club where Nyali’s Adel Balala won the title.
