Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba has reiterated the government’s support to Harambee Stars as the team prepares for the upcoming friendly matches as well as Caf and Fifa assignments.

Namwamba, who paid a courtesy call at the team's training session at the Nyayo Stadium, acknowledged the government’s key role in ensuring the success of all its national teams and committed to rallying behind the Harambee Stars.

“We want to make sure that we offer the support necessary for you to perform well in international assignments," the CS said.

"The Federation has given us a program of the preparations and we want you to be as ready as possible when the qualifiers start. I wish you all the best. As you prepare to leave for Mauritius as part of your preparations, I will be cheering you from Nairobi, please win your games,” he concluded.

Football Kenya Federation president Nick Mwendwa, on his part, thanked the government for coming through for the team at a time when the federation is shaking off a year-long suspension from football.

“I must say asante sana to the CS for committing to support the Harambee Stars. Government support is key if we are to achieve our goals and thus it’s our hope that moving forward, FKF shall cooperate with the Ministry of Sports to ensure the smooth running of all our national teams,” Mwendwa said.
