Kenya Ports Authority (men and women) will be going all out to secure  Kenya National Basketball League semi-final play-off slots when they host respective opponents at the Makande Welfare Hall this weekend.

The Mombasa-based giants are 1-0 up in the best-of-three-games series following last week's results over Kenyatta University Pirates and Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology Lynx in Nairobi respectively.

The dockmen had little difficulty thumping the students 89-62 with Leek Deng, Tobias Odhiambo and Lennox Wanje causing the damage.

KPA coach Anthony Ojukwu admitted that said the playoffs are a different ball game as all teams come prepared for battle.

"We have taken our training a notch higher and the players are ready to defend the title. We are at a tricky stage, where if you lose, you're out," said KPA's Anthony Ojukwu.

He added, "At this stage, we need to be focused and concentration is also key. It is going to be difficult, but I believe  the moment we have built  will give us an edge over  our opponents."

KU's tactician Caleb Osewe is aware of the task ahead. However, he said if he corrects the mistakes the team made during the last game, they can pull off a surprise.

"It has been a rainy week but that has not interfered with the focus for our games at the coast," Olebo said. The students will be banking on star players Wambua and Dolph Benedict.

Jkuat's Mary Chepkoi's said KPA who ripped them 98-24 is the best team in the league. They remain the only side so far yet to face defeat.

In the Game One tie in the city, Selina Okumu, Nigerian Ifunaya Okoro and Becky Nkatha combined for the Porters' 51 points and will lead the charge.

The women side ripped Jkuat 98-24 as Selina Okumu, Nigerian Ifunaya Okoro and Becky Nkatha combined for the porters 51 points.

"We are working on doing better on the floor with passing effectively and scoring. Defensively we will improve on defending the threes."
