Defending champions of the national teachers football championship Kwale County, are banking on match fitness and teamwork to win the title for the third consecutive year, sports organising secretary George Ojwaya has said.

Kwale is in Pool 'C'of the 16-team competition that will be played between April 22-25 at Alliance High school, Kiambu County.

They will battle it out with Kakamega, Nyandarua and Trans Nzoia in the fourth edition of the championship that is expected to become an annual tournament.

"We want to win the championship for the third year running. We have been training and playing friendly matches over the weekends with students within Kwale county, " Ojawaya observed.

Ojways said the team did not stop training after being crowned champions last year. He added that they have had a lot of friendly matches that have helped boost the fitness levels of the players.

"We have taken to the field against Shimba hills, Waa boys, Kaya Tiwi and the clubs around. We are also lucky to have had the opportunity to raffle feathers with National Super League teams as well as those in Division One."

"Our fitness levels are unmatched. Every staffroom in a school within Kwale has a team. We play at the sub-county level and our Kwale teachers team is called Kwale Defence Forces."

Commenting on women participation in sports he said: "It is a perception in Africa that when something starts, it must start with men. We have a netball team but not active because they lack competition. Our ladies need to be part of the sporting activities."
