Over 40 football coaches and referees from different parts of the country have converged in Kakamega for a 10-days of training.

The CAF-D training, organized by the Football Kenya Federation, is going on at the Lurambi CDF office hall.

According to Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Kakamega branch chairman,  Allan Muhando, said the training seeks to ensure referees at the grass root level have the necessary knowledge about present-time football.

“We are here in order to build the capacity of our coaches because we have many people on the technical benches of different teams but they don’t fully understand football rules and how they can nurture talent,” Muhando explained.

He said Kakamega county had promised to establish 60 talent academies —one in every ward—and coaches will be required to handle the training for the upcoming players thus the reason behind training sessions.

Former international Fred Serenge, who is one of the facilitators, said their wish is to see the country embracing a specific pattern of soccer that will also help strengthen the national team, Harambee Stars.

“We have not had a uniform kind of training in the past and so we are trying to bring uniformity in our Kenyan football so that we can start talking the same language,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Muhando wants Sports Cabinet Secretary, Ababu Namwamba to negotiate with Fifa and bring back football activities.
