THE REDS ARE BACK

Predictions: Liverpool to dominate Merseyside derby, City to clobber Villa

This weekend sees matchday six take place and the highlight will, of course, be the early kick-off Merseyside derby between Everton and Liverpool.

In Summary

• Liverpool won back-to-back matches for the first time this season and this is a morale booster to a team that was beaten by an out-of-form Manchester United.

• A 2-1 loss to Southampton showed that the Blues lacked the spark we have known them for and it seems they will struggle this season.

9-0! If that didn’t send shivers across the rest of the English Premier League clubs, then beware, Liverpool are back.

The scoreline against Bournemouth was what Jurgen Klopp’s side needed as they try to wrestle the league title from perennial rivals Manchester City. Arsenal, on the other hand, have been immense but hey, it is still too early for you guys to start celebrating.

Everton vs Liverpool (Saturday 2:30pm)

My prediction 0-3

Liverpool won back-to-back matches for the first time this season and this is a morale booster to a team that was beaten by an out-of-form Manchester United. A 9-0 win over Bournemouth and a late 2-1 win over Newcastle propelled the Reds to fifth on the log with nine points.

The Blues and Reds’ fans can expect a riveting contest when the two clubs clash. Everton have been winless so far and have to step up on this occasion. Otherwise, they risk yet another loss.

Of course, nobody wants to remember the events of the 2020/21 season where Liverpool lost Thiago Alcantara and Virgil van Dijk during the derby played at Goodison Park.

This is, however, another brand new season and each team needs the points very much. Let’s see how a Richarlison-less Everton can handle the silky Reds.

Chelsea vs West Ham United (Saturday 5pm)

My prediction 1-1

Chelsea are really struggling to pick form this season. Not even the arrival of Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibally seems to be helping them. A 2-1 loss to Southampton showed that the Blues lacked the spark we have known them for and it seems they will struggle this season.

Already, a couple of players have decamped and the replacements have not settled in fast, save for former Manchester City star Sterling. The England international scored a beauty against Leicester City and grabbed another against the Saints. Will he be at his best again against the Hammers?

A point against Tottenham on Wednesday night was at least welcome news for David Moyes’ team, who have been on the ropes this season. They will definitely fancy their chances against the Blues.

Aston Villa vs Manchester City

My Prediction 1-3

I really feel sorry for Steven Gerrard. Against Arsenal on Wednesday, he once again watched his team drop points and to

make matters worse, it was yet another defensive error. He is facing a Manchester City side that is on a roll. Erling Haaland is playing his best football and scoring goals for fun. Will Matt Cash, Ezri Konsa and Tyron Mings tame the bullish Norwegian?

Villa must wake up against the champions or else they might be in for another huge loss.
