KCB head coach Zedekiah Otieno has said their barren draw against Tusker at Moi Stadium Kasarani on Tuesday denied them a glorious opportunity to secure the third spot on the log.

While commending his squad for a gallant fight that saw them create clear opportunities, the tactician said they should have nailed the match early in the day if they had been clinical enough in front of goal.

“We had an opportunity to finish off our opponents early in the game only that we lacked composure in front of goal. We need to sharpen our attack if we are serious about remaining in contention for this year's title,” Otieno said.

Otieno, however, reiterated their desire to lay claim to a maiden title this season, insisting they still stood a mathematical chance by virtue of their position on the log.

“We were eager to move a step further after wrapping up second last season. We had our eyes set on the title from the start of the season.

“I'm not saying we have given up because we still have more than 10 matches left and we can use them to reignite our hopes for our maiden title.

“We are not badly off and not very far from the current leaders Kakamega Homeboyz. With some more effort, we can still be able to realize our dream,” Otieno said.

His opposite number Robert Matano extolled his team for exhibiting a great character in the hotly contested encounter.

“We gave it our best shot only we were not fortunate enough to find the back of the net this afternoon,” said Matano.

“Our opponents are a good side, don't forget they took the title race to the wire last season. Today they also gave us a run for our money.

Matano insists he is not under any pressure to deliver a second consecutive title.

“I don't think today's outcome is a blow to our title defence. It's merely a small setback and I believe we still have enough time to recover,” said Matano.

“I don't feel any pressure to catch up with Kakamega Homeboyz. Maybe they are the ones feeling the heat.

“We are taking each game at a time and what's important for us now is to improve in each match and collect the maximum points,” Matano said.

The outcome has left the brewers second on the log with 41 points while KCB are fifth with 37.
