Harambee Stars skipper Michael Olunga believes the country is resilient enough to trudge through the current crisis that has thrown the local football scene into disarray.

The 27-year-old mercurial striker, who currently plies trade for Al Duhail in the Qatar Premier League said Kenya was going through a baptism of fire but tipped the country to emerge bolder from the ashes in the long run.

“What we need now is to focus on our next assignments. Our performances against Uganda at St. Mary's Kitende on Friday and against Rwanda at Nyayo stadium on Monday testify to our ability to thrive in difficult situations," said Olunga.

“If we can register impressive results in times like this, then I'm convinced we can even perform much better in a better environment.

Kenya bounced back from a lackadaisical run in their past Group 'E' 2020 Qatar World Cup qualifiers to trounce Rwanda 2-1 at Nyayo Stadium on Monday, effectively registering their only win in the entire campaign.

“It was a wonderful display of character in the face of the current difficulties facing the team. I believe the situation is only momentary and it will soon be over.

“Our previous performances were not good enough because we were not clinical enough in front of goal. We have improved a great deal in our last two encounters, scoring three goals in two matches,” said Olunga.

“We can always manage a better scoreline if we organise ourselves well on the pitch if we follow the scripts given by our coaches accordingly,” he said.

He has been impressive for Al Duhail in the Qatar Premier League and scored a record five times (56, 62, 68, 79, 85th minutes) in their 5-0 thumping of Al Sailiya on September 26.
