A visibly elated KCB head coach Zedekiah 'Zico' Otieno was full of flowery words for his charges following a 2-0 win over Wazito at Moi Stadium, Kasarani on Friday.

KCB razor-sharp striker Derrick Otanga was the toast of the day, netting a brace that steered his side to a comfortable 2-0 victory over the moneybags.

“We put in a good performance even though the match was tough. It's true we had opportunities to score more goals but you do realise football is not like basketball where it's possible to net a basket at every given opportunity,” said Otieno, while describing their opponents as a tough nut to crack.

However, he seemed concerned with the officiating but went short of lashing out at the officials, saying: “I normally don't like talking about officiating but it would be better if the referees did their job well."

"We have been playing with a makeshift right fullback given both Baraka Badi and Lawrence Wepo are injured. We hope we shall be having our full squad in our subsequent matches,” added Otieno.

Meanwhile, Wazito coach Francis Kimanzi remained optimistic even as his charges succumbed to their fourth straight loss of the season.

“We are almost getting things right and very soon we shall be where we want to be,” said Kimanzi.

The gaffer said they gave their opponents a perfect opportunity to widen the gap as they fought hard to level up.

“It's always difficult to chase a match. KCB got their second goal on the counter as we pushed our players forward for an equaliser," said Kimanzi.

The bankers broke the deadlock barely three minutes into the game when skipper Simon Munala's cross from the left channel found Otanga strategically placed to blast home from close range.

The striker came back to haunt his former side again in the 54th minute when he found the back of the net after a tantalising interchange of passes with Henry Onyango in Wazito's area.

Mazembe should have extended the lead but instead of going for the kill, he teed up Otanga whose effort went begging.

Vincent Oburu should have levelled terms when he pounced on a loose ball inside the box only for his rasping shot to miss the target with Gabriel Adika rooted helplessly in the bankers' goal.

Following the outcome, KCB have moved to fifth on the log with 11 points while Wazito have sunk to second-last with just two.
