Former Kenya international Washington Muhanji wants the national team to prioritise goal-keeping department.
Muhanji asked the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) to invest heavily in goalkeeping and warned against taking the department for granted.
The former Harambee Stars shot-stopper urged FKF to prioritise and strengthen the goal-keeping department if the country is to make a mark on the continental scene.
"We have a lot of work to do if we are to attain the required standards as far as goal-keeping is concerned," he said shortly after contacting a one-week goal-keeping training in Migori County.
He added: "As a country, we've done very little in terms of developing young goal keepers. We don't have a single specialised goalkeeping academy and yet these are the kind of the structures we need to produce top notch shot-stoppers,"Muhanji pointed out.
He advised those in charge of national teams to consider reaching out to grassroots when it comes to selection of players, adding this is under-utilised.
"Let's give the players an equal opportunity when it comes to selection of national teams. One region can't effectively represent the whole country," he added.
Former defunct Scarlet FC goalkeeper is currently serving on the Vihiga Bullets technical bench.
