Tusker FC assistant coach Charles Okere has replaced David Ouma as the Harambee Starlets head coach.
Football Kenya Federation communicated the decision through a press release on Monday, saying Ouma had agreed to leave on mutual consent.
"David Ouma has parted ways with the federation on mutual consent. Football Kenya Federation has appointed Charles Okere as the national women Team, Harambee Starlets head coach," said the federation.
Okere will be assisted by Godfrey Oduor and Mildred Cheche, who both served as assistant coach and intern coach at FKF-PL side KCB respectively.
Okere's immediate task will be to guide the Starlets in a friendly against the Copper Bullets of Zambia in Lusaka on April 24.
The Ofafa Jericho High School alumnus, who cut his teeth as a budding coach at Mathare Youth Sports Association, has some big shoes to fit in if the Starlets are to remain among the elite in the continent.
Under Ouma's guidance, Kenya became a force to be reckoned with in the region and on the continent.
Several women footballers flourished under Ouma's watch, including Mwanahalima Adam, Corazone Aquino, Cynthia Shilwatso and Annette Kundu, who found their way to pro football in Europe.
It is that foundation that Okere will be expected to build on as he seeks to battle for slots in the forthcoming AWCON and World Cup berths.
