Nzoia Sugar head coach Ibrahim Shikanda has warned his charges to expect a tough battle against wounded basement club Vihiga United when they face off in a Kenyan Premier League match at Mumias Complex on Sunday.
Shikanda, whose side held on-form Kariobangi Sharks in a 0-0 stalemate at Sudi Stadium, Bungoma last weekend, said: “This league is proving to be tough and competitive. All teams understand what they came to do and therefore you cannot underestimate any team at the moment. We need to remain cautious."
“We are trying to work out things in the best way possible. I’m impressed with the spirit in the players, who are exhibiting hunger for success."
Shikanda revealed that losing their two opening matches will motivate Vihiga as they seek to make amends. However, he said they have objectives of their own to meet and nothing should come in between.
“We are fighting hard to realize our objectives but we are not under any pressure. We just want to do things in the right way, to reciprocate the support we are receiving from the management and all our fans,” said Shikanda.
The youthful Nzoia Sugar tactician, however, observed that they can only hit their targets if his players remain fit throughout the season.
Nzoia Sugar chairman Evans Kadenge alluded that he was happy with how the playing unit has responded to the philosophy of the new coach and assured him of maximum support.
The Bungoma-based outfit have one point from their opening two matches, having lost their opener against City Stars.
