Champions Vihiga Queens’ coach Alex Alumira have warned his charges against complacency what he termed as an unpredictable league season.

Despite an 8-0 win over home side Spedag in a Football Kenya Federation women’s premier league clash over the weekend, Alumira observed his charges are still below par.

Of the eight goals, only two were scored in the opening half, a performance which Alumira was not happy with.

“Honestly, the girls played below expectations especially in the first half,” said Alumira. “There has already been surprise results in the league and I expect more of that. We have to be serious in all games from start to end.”

Queens seemed to have been absorbed into the kind of game their hosts displayed.

“There was no sense of urgency at all. Opponents play a big role in bringing out the best in a team or player and without that, we cannot grow the women’s game in the country. The league is too early to call. But as it is, we can only expect lots of surprises.”

Meanwhile, the side will wait for one month before welcoming back fullback Euphrasia Afwayi who has been nursing a ligament tear on her right knee. Afwayi has already started rehabilitation and Alumira is not in a hurry to field her yet.

Queens remain unbeaten and without conceding. They defeated Makolanders 0-5 yesterday, crushed Spedag 0-8 on Saturday, hammered Mathare 8-0 in Bukhungu a week earlier and beat Nyuki Starlets 0-3 a fortnight ago. Elsewhere, neighbours Vihiga Leeds forfeited their league opener which was scheduled for Mumias Complex.
