The newly deployed Cabinet Secretary for Sport, Amina Mohammed yesterday said the Sh50m earlier promised to Harambee Stars by Deputy President William Ruto, was part of the over Sh240 million presented by Football Kenya Federation ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations tour.

She said her office has already consented FKF’s Sh244,586,705 Stars’ budget ahead of the 2019 continental showpiece. Amina said the slightly over Sh244.5m kitty was inclusive of the Sh50m token.

The CS’s statement was rubber-stamped by Sports and Social Development Fund chairman Lieutenant General (Rtd) Jackson Tuwei.

“Resources have already been approved and transferred to the Federation's accounts. We have deliberated over the issue and have resolved to give the Stars their money as part of the preparation budget presented by FKF,” noted Tuwei.

DP Ruto promised the Stars that government will give them the cash if they qualified for the Afcon and they did it in style, bringing to an end the 15 years’ wait for prestigious football extravaganza.
