Law enforcers win fourth leg of National league to extend lead

Kisumu will host the next battleground where this year's champion will be revealed.

After winning the fourth leg of the National Boxing League in Mombasa at the weekend, Kenya Police pugilists 'Chafua Chafua' have extended their lead to 109 points.

The law enforcers opened up an unassailable 16-point lead over their nearest rival, the Kenya Defense Forces, thanks to their sterling performance in the coastal city.

A delighted head coach Dave Munuhe thanked his team for executing a brilliant performance.

“We have one last obstacle in Kisumu to overcome, and I believe we have already shown we are capable. I know we are close, but we need to be on top of our game until the end,” Munuhe said.

"We will not rest to celebrate our victory now. We are crossing our fingers for the final kill in Kisumu that will give us the coveted title."

He praised KDF for stimulating competition and challenged them to strive for excellence.

"Their presence has been important in pushing us to the limit and getting the best out of us. They are worthy competitors and beating them is proof that we have what it takes to be champions.”

Kenya Police made clear their intention to defend their title after a flying start in the first leg in Kitale, where they emerged victorious with 27 points.

In the next leg held in Meru, Police were handed a heavy blow by KDF  who amassed 25 points to carry the day.

A strong performance by the law enforcers in Nanyuki and Mombasa saw them bounce back emphatically to win the third and fourth legs with 30 and 31 points, respectively.

Based on the results from the four rounds of the competition, KDF are in second place with 93 points, followed by Nairobi County with 33 points.

Kibra Olympic are in fourth place with 21 points ahead of Kisumu County who placed fifth with 15 points.

Githurai 44 rank sixth with 12 while Laikipia County and Kongowea are tied for seventh with 10 points.

Kajiado County are in eighth place with nine points ahead of Vihiga County who have collected seven so far. Meru County are in 10th place with five points while Mbaraki and Siaya share the eleventh place with four points each.

Dallas are in 12th place with three points while Trans Nzoia County and Mombasa finish in last place with one point.

Hit Squad's veteran boxer, Elly Ajowi has been on a roll and won all four rounds of the heavyweight division for Police.

Light middleweight Boniface Mugunde was equally is equally in a class of his own and has been able to score a clean pass in all four rounds. Hezron Maganga, who holds down the fort for KDF has also been able to maintain consecutive victories in the four matches played so far.

Kisumu will host the next battleground where this year's champion will be revealed.

Meanwhile, national team boxers Elizabeth Andiego and Samuel Njau participated in the Career Plus conference organized by Athlete365 and the Kenyan Athletes Commission.

The purpose of the conference was to equip athletes on ways to invest and prepare for their post-sports careers.
