Despite his promotion-chasing Wazito losing to unfancied Migori Youth on Sunday, play-maker Amos Asembeka is still pleased to have opened his goals account in the earlier match against Kangemi All-Stars, in what is proving to be a dream start for the creative midfielder.

Since his signing alongside Lloyd Wahome, the duo have both started all the matches, with Wahome giving one of the assists that Joseph Waithira scored against Nairobi City Stars.

“It’s fantastic. It is something you want to be doing often in helping the team succeed. So I take it in my stride,” he noted. Asembeka, who is on loan from Tusker FC, is slowly acclimatising at Wazito and getting to learn the culture and camaraderie.

He is confident the best of him is yet to come. Club administrator, Bramwel Makotsi, is full praise in how the player has established himself in the team. “Asembeka is a sleek and swift midfielder with top class control and fast touch.

He thrives in small spaces and plays swift passes where no one can see,” he said. He added that his playing does the talking, enabling him to earn respect and confidence among teammates.

Asembeka scored a thunderbolt in the Kangemi match, hitting the right corner from outside 18 to open the goals for the club. The match eventually ended with four goals to the club, with Kangemi shaking our net twice.

For the coaches, his addition adds important depth that will come in handy as they seek to steer the team in the National Super League and SportPesa Shield Cup.

“I hope this is just the beginning. I will keep working hard, staying focused to help the team achieve its objectives this season,” he added. Coach Fred Ambani stated that his individual brilliance in the goal and general attitude on the pitch is refreshing.

“He keeps his head up throughout 90 minutes. He is also not afraid to take risks in expressing himself on the pitch, something we encourage players to do,” he added. Wazito are second on the table a point behind National Superleague leaders Ushuru.
