Nyanchwa eye fifth consecutive Kisii county boys' basketball title

A bullish Mogire said they are now playing in the same league with regional champions Onjiko School and former champions Agoro Sare.

Nyanchwa Boys will target a fifth consecutive Kisii county boys’ basketball title when the games get underway at Kisii School and Kisii University on Thursday.

Coach Kepher Mogire said: “At the county level, I don’t see any big threat. Maybe Kisii School will give us some challenge but we beat them at the sub-county level and we shall beat them again if we meet at the county level.”

A bullish Mogire said they are now playing in the same league with regional champions Onjiko School and former champions Agoro Sare.

 “My target is to play in the regional finals. I want to meet Onjiko, who beat us in the semis last year,” said Mogire, whose side finished third at the regional level.

Nyanchwa start their campaign in Pool 'A' against Nyanturago while Kisii School has a tricky opening fixture against Cardinal Otunga High School, Mosocho.

In the girls' category, holders St Angelas Sengera  face Riosiri and Ichuni in Pool ‘A’ while Pool 'B' have Kereri Girls, Suneka and Marani. Pool C, has Sameta Mixed, Nyabisase and Nyabururu, while Igorera and Nyanchwa Girls face off in Pool 'D’.

In rugby 15’s Nduru Boys will seek to defend their title amid tough competition from hosts Kisii School.

Nduru Boys are in Pool ‘A’ alongside with Kerongorori, Igonga and Nyabisase while Kisii School are in a tough Pool ‘B’ alongside former champions Cardinal Otunga, Mosocho, Nyamagwa Boys and Rioma, according to the draws released by Kisii County Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association secretary Geoffrey Nyantika.

Nduru Boys and Amaiko Mixed will seek to defend their hockey titles. Amaiko will battle it out with Kereri Girls and St Anne’s Nyangoge.

Nduru Boys face Cardinal Otunga, Mosocho and Nyamagwa Boys in Pool 'A' while Pool 'B' has Riokindo Boys, hosts Kisii School and Nyabigena Boys.

The schools will also compete in track and field, cross country and handball.
