Kenya Ports Authority and Equity Bank return to action as the FIBA Africa Zone Five Club Championships enter a crucial stage at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar-es-salaam, Tanzania.

In a nine-team tournament, barring an upset, the two Kenyan giants are expected to book their slots in tomorrow’s quarter with expected victories.

The porters, who are also the champions, face off against REG of Rwanda in a Group C match.

They are a game from an automatic spot in the quarter-final after an opening  69-42 victory over Young Sister of Burundi.

Led by their experienced captain Natalie Akinyi, Jemimah Knight and the speedy Victoria Reynolds at the backcourt, KPA look strong. They will have the backup of Vilma Owino, Selina Okum, Kristin King, Nichole Shiio and Rita Anyango.

“The rotations I made during our opening game gave me an idea of who to play at what time. So far, I am happy and look forward to a better performance going forward,” coach Ojukwu said.

He added: “We need to bring our A game while playing REG. They are a tough nut to crack  but I believe if we put on much pressure they will  give in.”

The bankers, who fell 51-49 to Alexandria Sportive of Egypt, will be assured of a last-eight stop with a positive result against debutants South Sudan.

Coach David Maina remained hopeful that his charges have recovered in time and that forward Lynette Atieno will be cleared to play after being ineligible in the opening tie.

Coach Maina will hope that his key players led by Melissa Akinyi, Christine Akinyi, Annerose Mandela and Betty Kananu will be at their best.
