Kenya Morans coach Liz Mills is back in the country to fine-tune the national team ahead of next month’s FIBA AfroBasket 2021 Championship in Kigali, Rwanda.

Ambrose Kisoi, the Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) secretary confirmed the Australia tactician arrived on Wednesday night.

Mills, who masterminded Kenya’s return to the continental festival in nearly three decades, is convinced the team would do well in the show slated for August 24-September 5.

Kisoi also revealed that USA-based forward Ronnie Gundo has also made it home. Denmark-based Tylor Ongwae was the first diaspora player to arrive.

The rest of the overseas-based players, he revealed, will join the team just before the championships.

The team is training at the Nyayo Stadium gymnasium. Due to the unavailability of Kasarani Indoor Arena, he said, the federation is looking for a hotel where the team can camp.

Kenya are pooled in Group ‘C’ alongside Africa’s top seed and favourites Nigeria, Cote d’ Ivoire and Mali. A total of 16 teams will take part in the tournament.

Assistant coach Sadat Gaya said the team has already started training for the event, with ten players going through their paces, as they wait for more.

Players in camp are Faheem Juma, Victor Bosire, Victor Ochieng, Taylor Ongwae, Griffin Ligare, Ariel Okal, Joseph Khaemba, Fidel Okoth, Derrick Ochieng and Ken Wachira.
