KBF names national women's coach, squad

Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) secretary Ambrose Kisoi said Mayienga's immediate task is to prepare the Lionesses for the FIBA Africa Zone Five qualifiers.

• Mayienga, who handles JKL Dolphins in the Ugandan league will be assisted by Mike Opel (KPA),  Eunice Ouma (Eagle Wings) and Tony Ochieng (Strathmore University).

• Inform USA-based star Felmas Koranga will lead five other diaspora players in the 22-strong squad to start training at Nyayo Stadium gymnasium on May 1.

Uganda-based George Mayieng has been appointed the national women’s team head coach.

Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) secretary Ambrose Kisoi said Mayienga's immediate task is to prepare the Lionesses for the FIBA Africa Zone Five qualifiers.

His focus will be to return the team to the AfroBasket for women slated for this year at a venue yet to be determined. Kenya finished last in the 2019 show in Dakar, Senegal.

Mayienga, who handles JKL Dolphins in the Ugandan league will be assisted by Mike Opel (KPA),  Eunice Ouma (Eagle Wings) and Tony Ochieng (Strathmore University).

Moran's head coach Liz Mills will be the technical assistant while Equity Bank coach Sylvia Kamau is the team manager.

Others are Victoria Wanjara, Clara Rotich, Brenda Adhiambo (USA), Mercy Wanyama (Spain) and Rose Ouma (UAE).
