Kenya Under-18 boys’ 3 on 3 team have moved into residential training ahead of the first Anoca games scheduled for next in Rwanda.

While taking the boys through their paces at Nyayo Stadium, coach Evelyne Kedogo said the games will be held from April 2-6 in Huyei and the boys are responding well to training.

“The boys are very determined, which is important. We are taking a lot of shots because 3 on 3 is basically a shooting contest,” said Kedogo. Kenya are the defending champions having won the event in Dar-es-salaam, Tanzania last year. “The team did not perform so well in Mombasa a year earlier but they have improved considerably,” she said.

She said the prospects in the Rwanda looks good but a lot of work still needs to done. Egypt, Uganda, Tanzania and South Sudan have already confirmed for the tournament.

“With Egypt coming, it is always a tough competition. Even Rwanda playing at home before their home fans will not be easy but we are going there ready for the challenge,” she observed.

Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) secretary Vitalis Gode said they picked on the boys team instead of the girls because they have a better chances of podium finish. “We were asked by the National Olympic Committee of Kenya to enter only one team for the championship and we picked on the boys. We are convinced they will do us proud out there,” he said.

Squad: Neville Oduor (Aga Khan Academy), Samuel Chege (Mombasa Baptist), Robert Ogola and Richard Owino (Maranda High), Issa Ali (Dagoretti High), Salim Bundi (Meru), Paul Magloire (St. Austin’s), Heskey Lawal and Aex Bendo (Hospital Hll).
