• Dagoretti shut out rivals Upper Hill School 53-39 in last week’s final
• He said they are currently putting a lot of emphasis on shooting and defence
NAIROBI region basketball champions Dagoretti are looking beyond semi-finals in next month’s national secondary school games in Mombasa.
Coach and principal Peter Orero said they have embarked on a serious two-week training ahead of the August 8-13 games.
“This time around, I have set the boys a target of at least reaching the last four. However, we intend to take one game at a time as we monitor the situation,” said Orero.
Dagoretti shut out rivals Upper Hill School 53-39 in last week’s final to book their ticket to the nationals. They had dismissed Langata High School 74-28 in the semis. He said they are currently putting a lot of emphasis on shooting and defence in a bid to achieve their goal in Mombasa.
“Our shooting was not good at all throughout the Nairobi games. This is one key area we will have to improve on if we are to achieving our goal,” he added.
Dagoretti retained their crown also represented Nairobi in the national championships last year in Embu, where they failed to win a single match.
However, upon return to the city, Orero registered his boys in the Nairobi Basketball Association (NBA), a league where they picked a lot of lessons and improved their performance.
Orero, who won the national title with Upper Hill School, will rely on Churchill Odhiambo, Robert Wanjala, Moses Alier, Seid Abubakar and Akok Akech.
