Kenya Lionesses starter Natalie Mwangale is a doubt for Wednesday's FIBA AfroBasket Women's Championships pre-quarters final match against Mozambique at the Palaise Polyvalent des Sports Yaounde, Cameroon.

The play-maker pulled out with an ankle injury during their 61-58 victory over Cape Verde on Sunday. She missed the team's training and she is unlikely to feature in the crucial 8 pm duel.

"Natalie is doubtful for the match after suffering an ankle injury in our last game. We tested her during our training as we had a two-day break but all wasn't well," Mayienga said from Yaounde.

"During our two rest days, the girls spend time watching videos of Angola and Mozambique. The break was good for us, and we should be fresh for today's duel."

He said despite an impressive outing from the forward Christine Akinyi, he will not give her a starting slot role but will still use her as a reserve.

"So far, Christine has played well in our two games and did well in our win over Cape Verde. The impact she generated coming off the bench has been key and I want her to continue in that role."

Mayienga said if Mwangale shakes off her injury, she will retain her starting role alongside Victoria Reynolds, Melissa Akinyi, Vilma Owino, and Mercy Wanyama.

"I was also impressed by the defensive contributions of Selina in that win and trust that she will keep up the spirit," said Mayienga who expects everyone to perform.

The Mozambicans, who are missing the services of dangerous Leia Dongue, will rely on the exploits of Inguild Macauro, Abrela Cossa, Tamara Seda, and Skofaria ChiIane.

Kenya finished second in Group A following Cameroon's 71-40 victory over winless Cape Verde who had also lost 61-58 to the Lionesses. Kenya went down 70-54 to the hosts.

On the other hand,  Mozambique were placed bottom of their Group 'B' after losing their two matches to reigning champions Nigeria and former powerhouse Angola.

Cameroon, Nigeria, Senegal, and Mali, winners of Groups A, B, C, and D respectively gained automatic qualifications to the quarter-finals and are awaiting the winners from the pre quarters.
