Kenya Police FC's head coach, Etienne Ndayiragije, has implored his charges to intensify their pursuit of a maiden top-flight title as they navigate the most treacherous and pivotal phase of the season.
The Nairobi-based law enforcers find themselves on the brink of a monumental feat, following a thrilling stoppage-time victory over Bandari at the Mbaraki Sports Club in Mombasa over the weekend.
As the dust settles on the weekend's exhilarating match, Kenya Police FC now boasts 58 points, a slender yet significant three-point cushion ahead of their closest rivals: Tusker and Gor Mahia, who sit at 55 and 53 points respectively.
The Burundian gaffer believes they can surmount a vicious challenge in the final phase of the competition to seal their maiden title.
"We just need to focus on the remaining matches and ensure we collect maximum points," he said. "We are now in the driver's seat and have a safe three-point caution. We don't have an option but to win our remaining matches," he said.
Their next tie is an away game against Kakamega Homeboyz, who are sixth with 48 points. Police will return home to clash with FC Talanta, before taking on Shabana in another home match.
The season culminates in a high-stakes showdown against the defending champions, Gor Mahia, a match that could very well determine the fate of the title.
Ndayiragije’s wisdom shines through as he cautions his players against underestimating any of their opponents, all of whom pose equal threats to their lofty ambitions.
"We know we are facing some tough teams in our remaining matches. I don't think any of them will be a walk in the park. We have to push above our weight in all the matches," he said.
The journey of Kenya Police FC has been nothing short of remarkable. Since their promotion to the top-tier competition in 2021, the team has undergone a steady curve of growth, evolving from underdogs to title contenders.
This transformation has been fueled by a blend of youthful exuberance and seasoned experience, creating a squad that is both dynamic and resilient.
Ndayiragije said the players have embraced their roles with fervour, embodying the ethos of hard work and dedication that is synonymous with the law enforcement community they represent.
"The best part of our story is that we invested heavily in a rich pool of talent that has proved crucial in our campaign this season," he said.
As fans rally behind their team in this thrilling chapter of Kenyan football, the atmosphere is charged with hope and excitement.
The road to the championship may be long and winding, but for Kenya Police FC, the destination is clear: glory awaits, and they are ready to seize it with both hands.
