Team Kenya will field 12 swimmers at the World Junior Swimming Championships slated for September in Netanya, Israel.

Lubaina Ali will spearhead Kenya's charge for medals alongside Bianca Samuel, Audrey Chebet, Sarah Mose, Antisha Mose and Angel D Samoe in the girls' category.

Nathan Matimu, who has been in good form in various local events, is the high-profile entry in the boys' category alongside Shaka Gikunda, Mutinda Aker, Joshua Masaka, Haniel Khudoli and Ali A Nandy.

Ali expressed optimism two months to the championships.

"I am done with the trials now and we have two and half months of intense training to get into peak condition for the championships,” said Lubaina.

Matimu said he has formulated a two-pronged attack for the championships; reach his respective final as well as lower his personal best.

"It's going to be a tough championship but I want to be optimistic about my chances. I want to set a couple of records and get to the final," he said, adding: "I hope to have two/three warm-up events in readiness for Isreal."

As part of their preparations for the global event, Mose and Aker will represent the country at the Commonwealth Youth Games slated for August 4-7 in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago.

Lubaina and Matimu will be the reserve swimmers for the Commonwealth Youth event.
