Ministry commits Sh268million to spur sports and creative events

The ministry of sports is implementing a plan that will use the school system as platform to nurture talents from an early age.

The Ministry of Youth, the Arts and Sports under CS Ababu Namwamba has committed Sh268 million to sponsor all sports and creative events in schools and tertiary institutions.

This announcement was made during The Concert Gala of the top items from the Schools Drama and Film Festival organised jointly by ministries of education and sports held at the State house on June 2.

The ministry of sports is implementing a plan that will use the school system as platform to nurture talents from an early age.

This move is in tandem with the ministry's goal of turning sports and creativity industries into a major economic driver for youths through the Talanta Hela initiative.

The initiative aims at rewarding sportsmen and women by monetizing their talents.

Under the Talanta Hela initiative, the winners of the Madaraka Day tournament held in Embu County, Embu All Stars took home a cash price of Sh500,000.  The runners-up Gor Mahia bagged Sh300,000.
