Mvita hockey club Mombasa is in grief following the demise of Bruce Amenya on Saturday at Kenyatta National Hospital while undergoing treatment.
The player was a student of Pwani University whose bus was involved in a road accident on March 31 that consumed at least 18 lives.
The bus collided with a matatu at the Kayole Bridge on the Nairobi-Nakuru highway.
"It is with great sadness that I have to inform you that our fellow player Bruce Amenya of Mvita XI Hockey Club Mombasa, passed away at Kenyatta National Hospital ICU after he was involved in the Pwani Bus Accident in Naivasha," Kennedy Kyalo, the secretary general of the club reported via social media.
"He was a valuable member of our team and his presence will be deeply missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends during this difficult time. We will do our best to support them in any way we can.
"As a team, we will continue to honor Bruce's memory and legacy. We will be sharing more information about any arrangements or memorial services once they become available."
Mvita plays in the men's Super League and the team has won their only match played this season.
