Kcb technical director Paul Bitok who is also the organiser of the tournament said: “I am very excited for this highly competitive volleyball tournament that has brought together worthy opponents to test their strengths and weaknesses.

"Most of the teams participating in this event will take part in the African Club Championship next month, so this serves as an excellent platform to prepare for the continental showpiece."

The tournament which is in its 1st edition has attracted a total of 21 teams. Nine women’s teams and 12 men’s teams will participate in the event which boasts one foreign team (Rwanda Air).

Bitok, who doubles up as the national women's team coach Malkia Strikers,  also underscored the need to develop and nurture volleyball talent from the grassroots level as he is also running a parallel competition in Kiminini.

The top teams in both men's and women's categories will be battling for a prize purse of sh 100,000 while the runners-up will walk away half the prize.
