• Meanwhile, Malkia Strikers setter Emmaculate Nekesa has vowed to use the experiences gathered at the World Championships to further her budding career.
• "Chumba's move has been in the pipeline for a while and will benefit both her and the national team. In the coming weeks," said national team coach Paul Bitok.
Hard-hitting Malkia Strikers opposite player Sharon Chepchumba has signed a one-year contract with Greek side Aris Thessaloniki.
Chumba, as she is commonly known in volleyball circles, was part of the national team to the World Championships where they fell in the first hurdle off Group 'A'.
Kenya won just one match, against continental rivals Cameroon, the only smile they got after defeats to Belgium, Italy, Puerto Rico and hosts the Netherlands.
"Chumba's move has been in the pipeline for a while and will benefit both her and the national team," said national team coach Paul Bitok. "I am sure more of our players will be headed abroad in the coming weeks. The interest is mounting."
"I know it will be tough for KCB to lose a player of such quality. However, we want our players to gain experience in European leagues. A team like Cameroon is competitive because they have more athletes in France."
Meanwhile, Malkia Strikers setter Emmaculate Nekesa has vowed to use the experiences gathered at the World Championships to further her budding career.
Nekesa, 19, hopes to exert her dominance in training to become the go-to national team player. She was among the 14 national team players, who jetted back into the country on Sunday night where she expressed optimism heading into a deserved break.
And even though Malkia Strikers bowed out of the global show at the first hurdle, Nekesa said: "It was a worthy experience, for sure. It's a dream come true to don the national team colours after several aborted attempts."
"There was pressure, definitely, considering this was my first assignment with Malkia Strikers. I had to remain calm and rely on my little experience from the African Club Championships to inspire myself," said Nekesa.
"I know I have done enough to become the first choice setter amidst the relentless competition for the position. But I know I will have to work harder to retain my position."
Kenya Defense Forces' Veronicah Kilabat was Nekesa's understudy in the Netherlands and they are expected to have a rough ride when Kenya Pipeline's Esther Mutinda returns from maternity leave.
Nekesa also tipped her club KCB to battle for the Kenya Volleyball League, guided by fellow Malkia Strikers Mercy Moim, Chepchumba, Belinda Barasa and Edith Wisa.
KCB, under Japheth Munala, ended their 16-year continental title drought by winning the African Club Championship trophy in June. They are chasing their first local silverware since 2008.
