After scoring her first goal against the Lakers over the weekend, Strathmore Scorpions' new signing Grace Bwire believes there's still more to come from her.

The former Blazers attacker managed two goals for the record national champions before joining Scorpions after her exploits with the national women's hockey team in the Commonwealth Games early last month.

"The first goal is always important and I am relieved the long wait is over. I like scoring but doing so against the meanest of defenses in Lakers makes me feel proud."

The former Tartar Girls' player scored her first senior hat-trick when Kenya beat neighbours Uganda 11-0 during a friendly match held at the Dashmesh Hockey Stadium, Nairobi April 2021.

"I am only getting started and can only get better. The girls have exhibited positive energy and I am fully settled and focused to help the team achieve their target," she said.

The 20-year-old hopes to hit the ground running in order to win the top scorers award. "I know the team comes first...Winning is all that matters but I can't rule out going for the best scorers award."

Bwire admitted she is missing her long-time pal Chebet but the prospect of re-union now only seems possible at the national team level.

The duo had formed a lethal partnership at Blazers before the breakup.

"We already had a telepathic understanding but now we have to chart different paths. Fate works in a funny way but at least we will play together in national colours."
