National Cereals and Produce Board will meet Kenya Defence Forces in the Kenya Handball Federation Super Cup final on Saturday.

The two giants set the stage for this epic duel after their respective semi-finals at Nyayo National Stadium Sunday afternoon.

NCPB hammered GSU 24-14 in the opening semi as KDF dispatched Strathmore University 24-18 in the other.

Brian Wakhulo and Timothy Kirimy scored five times each while Nicholas Okore managed four for holders NCPB.

The paramilitary side trailed 14-7 at the breather and never recovered. Christopher Mayende top-scored for the losers with four strikes.

“It was an easy game. We played well just as we had planned. Surprisingly, there was no challenge at all,” said NCPB tactician Dan Eshikumo.

“We are now ready for our opponents in next weekend’s final. But we will need to work on our conversion.”

KDF came back strongly from a 9-7 halftime deficit to stun the students.

Kevin Imo tallied six, Gideon Kiprotich had five and Nicholas Inapi contributed four for the soldiers. Prevailer Muhani was Strath’s highest scorer with four.

“We had a good game. Ulinzi winning against Strath is good for them. I think it’s long since they beat us. I want to believe they

prepared well,” said Strathmore coach Peter Mwathi.

“We did silly mistakes. When you play against Ulinzi and there are turnovers, be ready to be beaten.”

“They are strong and are always running. We were not able to convert well and in the last six or seven minutes, we cracked so much. Our boys gave in easily.”

In the women’s match of the day, KDF worked hard to squeeze a 23-22 win over NCPB after trailing 10-9 at halftime.

Sarah Wasike scored seven goals and Sharon Chelule five for the winners while Serah Mabonga hit six and Joan Akinyi five for the losers.

The soldiers will now take on champions Nairobi Water Queens in the decider set for Sunday.
