Kenya Prisons coach Josp Barasa is confident his charges can successfully defend the Kenya Volleyball Federation League title.
Prisons are fine-tuning for the playoffs that also bring Kenya Pipeline, Kenya Commercial Bank and Directorate of Criminal Investigation in Mombasa between August 26 and 29.
The wardresses have won the past two editions.
"I think if you go to the battlefield, you think of winning more than failure and that's the obligation of the whole team. We are working towards that," Barasa said.
Barasa, who was part of Malkia Strikers technical bench at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, called on his charges to maintain focus.
His sentiments come after Prisons were forced to rally from behind to beat DCI 3-1 DCI. Despite winning by the same scoreline against Kenya Defence Forces, the soldiers made life difficult for Prisons last weekend at Kamiti Maximum Prison.
"The most important thing now is to concentrate on what lays ahead of us. Team cohesion needs to be urgently addressed. Skills, which include service, reception, blocking, court defence, team combination and gelling should be looked into also," said Barasa.
Barasa could not be drawn into the opinions of pundits who have set tongues wagging claiming that the race for the title is a two-horse race pitting Prisons and KCB.
Perhaps KCB's new-look squad gives them a genuine chance but Barasa has other thoughts.
" We are four teams in the playoffs. Anything is possible."
