Football Kenya Federation (FKF) vice President Doris Petra says she is happy to see former players taking up football courses and advancing their careers.
She spoke in Nakuru on Monday, where she opened a 10-day Caf D coaching course.
Under the tutelage of Fifa/FKF Instructors Musa Otieno and Patrick Wanjau, the course is expected to benefit 50 local grass root coaches.
“As FKF, we have made sure we incorporated former players in these courses in a bid to advance their football careers. This will help us identify and nurture young talents, especially at the grassroot. In the long run, this will enable us to have a continuous flow of talent that will feed the national teams,” said Petra.
According to a statement posted on the football governing body’s official portal, FKF Nakuru County branch chairman Francis Oliele also echoed Petra’s words.
“We are targeting to have all coaches coaching at the grassroots level to have at least a Caf D diploma certificate in the next four years,” said Oliele. Former Harambee Stars' goalkeeper Noah Ayuko is part of the former players taking part in the course.
“As a former player, I would like to combine my talent with the coaching skills I will acquire during this course and help nurture upcoming football talents,” said Ayuko.
Capacity building of coaches is one of the key pillars for the federation.
