Samurai are upbeat ahead of their campaign to defend the 14-goal White Cap Kenya International Polo which throws off on Friday at the Nairobi Polo Club.

The high octane action has attracted four team which lineup against each other with more international players having jetted in the country.

The high handicapped players will combine forces with top Kenya players to form 14-goal teams in the battle for the top honours. In hi efforts to ensure Samurai retains the trophy, team patron Raphael Nzomo (2.5) tack together seasoned players including South African six goaler Tom de Bruin, Tanzanian handicap 3.5 Hansi Bruins, Kenyan Jules Camm (2.5) and himself.

The South African import has played in the Queen’s Cup, The Coronation Cup and the Royal Windsor will captain Samurai which who open their title defense against Toyota. Playing off five goals from North Kenya Polo Club Jamie Murray skippers Toyota which drew South African Guy Watson (4), Craig Millar (3.5) and Joss Craig (2).

Kenya International tournament regular handicapped five Duncan Watson from SA combine forces with Manyatta Polo Club’s trio of Archie Voorspuy (3.5), Izzy Parsons (2.5) and Mbu Ngugi (2.5) under White Cap Lite. They open their title hunt against their ‘Big Brother’ White Cap.

North Kenya sensational brothers Casmir (5) and Tarquin (3) Gross who lined up against each other in the six-goal Kenya International finals last weekend will feature for White Cap alongside tournament regular South African five goaler Gareth Evans and Ben Stonewigg (1).

Recently, Stonewigg played in the Kenya national junior polo team which beat USA and host Zambia in Lusaka to win the tri-nation school boys tournament. He also played in last weekend’s finals where his team White Cap narrowly lost to Patrick Mavros. Other players will play in the subsidiary category.
