He will also be part of the 4x400m mixed relay race later today. This is after he successfully defended his half marathon title on Saturday.
Munyao, the 2018 10km winner at the Sotokoto Half Marathon, will partner with Kelvin Tanui, Stella Chepkosgei and Irene Nzilani as they seek to add to Kenya’s medal tally. Kenya’s medal haul now stands at 12—eight gold, three silver and one bronze—as of yesterday.
To win the division M01 half marathon title, the 20-year-old timed 1:11:34.00 as Libya’s Anwer Elmarouk finished a distant second in 1:25:27. Danish Nikolaj Mortensen clocked 1:25:43.00 to complete the podium.
Tanui shook off competition from Morocco’s Houdaifa Mohamed to win the Division M10 1,500m run in 04:18.47. Houdaifa crossed the line four seconds later (04:22.32) for second place while Canadian Stephane Piccinin was third after clocking 4:27.01.
Catherine Wanjue, 24, won gold in division F08 50m dash in 11.87, while Chepkosgei clocked 4:49.32 to win 1,500m division F06 run, beating compatriot Nzilani (5:21.39) to the second position. Audrey Vincent from Canada was third after timing 5:28.45.
In bocce, Deepak Sanghvi won bronze in the singles and then pairing with unified partner Veer Rajesh they raked in gold the ‘unified sports team.’
The girls' duo of Marion Iravaya Obiri and Effie Awuor brought Kenya gold in the ‘unified sports team.’
Cyclists Sammy Kamande, 17, settled for a silver medal in the 2km Time Trial in 4:46.00 as Shalel Tennah won the 5km TT title having clocked 10:26.00 and finished fifth in 2km TT in 5:27.00.
Swimmers Chalton Waithaka, Kagondu Kariuki, Sonali Ritesh and Faith Nyagaki were contended with a silver medal after posting 1:32.55 in the 4x25m freestyle mixed relay. Nyagaki also won gold in the 50m breaststroke in 1:50.11.
