Chianda and Agoro Sare qualify for 7's nationals

Agoro Sare High and Chianda qualified for the national rugby 7’s as the Nyanza region secondary schools championships entered Day 2 yesterday in Homa Bay.

Agoro Sare narrowly beat debutants Nduru Boys 17-12 to qualify to the finals while Chianda upset defending champions Maseno School 21-14 in the other semifinals.

Agoro Sare and Chianda will face off in today’s final but have already booked a place at the nationals to be held at Shimo La Tewa School.  

In the game involving Agoro Sare and Nduru, it was the debutants who took the lead through Gregory Ochieng for an unconverted try. Sam Sure equalised for Agoro Sare with a try which was converted by Austine Ochieng.

Ochieng crossed over for his team’s second try with Clinton Maina adding the third. In 15’s rugby, defending champions St Mary’s School, Yala will tackle rivals Ambira in today’s semis while Maseno face Oriwo Boys in the second semi.

National girls handball champions Sega Girls will square it out with Msare in the final. Sega beat Rachar 38-12 while Msare edged Miranga 30-15. In the boy’s category, champions Kanyawanga will play Barding while Mbita School plays Agoro Sare.
