Reigning champions Ross Field and Quentin Savage got their title defence off to a perfect start with a narrow victory on the opening round of the 2019 Amiran Kenya National Rally Raid Championship.

The pair drove their Century Racing CRT to a slim 35-second win ahead of the similar car of Mike Ross and Maarten Piet. Overnight leaders Alasdair Keith and Charles Mousley overcame fuel feed problems to complete the podium in their self-built V8 Landrover.

Based at Kedong Ranch, the two-day Amiran Simba Rally Raid was comprised of four stages totalling 180 kilometres of dusty action. With over 30% of the field being made up by new competitors the new season has begun positively.

A total of seven bikes started with Simon Dixon winning the main category whilst Jon Bovard won the inaugural Clubman’s section. Jon, who is a former Raid winner as both a co-driver and as a driver, now completes the set with a win on bikes too!

TV highlights from the opening round will be screened this week but a full length round up of all the action will be aired on our dedicated Youtube page in the next few days.

The second round of the 2019 Amiran Kenya National Rally Raid Championship will be held over the weekend of 22 and 23 June.
