Rwanda has been picked as host nation for the 2015 Council of East and Central Africa Senior Challenge Cup tournament in November while Tanzania will stage Kagame Club Cup in July.
Cecafa secretary Nicholas Musonye said the two nations have been given the nod to host aforementioned tournaments. “We have settled on Rwanda to stage the Senior Challenge Cup and Tanzania to host Kagame Cup. We are still having a few loose ends to tie but the deal is as good as done.”
Musonye said they will hold a press conference today to officially make the announcement. “We have a few teething problems despite settling on Rwanda and Tanzania as hosts for our competitions but this will be confirmed on Monday (today) during a press conference.
“We have also agreed that participating teams in Cecafa tournaments will this time round meet their own airfares while Cecafa only cater for the cost of their officials, referees and allowances. The hosting nation will take charge of accommodation and local transport for parting teams, Cecafa officials as well as prizes for the winners,” said the Cecafa supremo.
The decision to pick Rwanda and Tanzania was reached at on Friday during Cecafa’s ad hoc committee meeting held in Nairobi. The meeting was attended by Cecafa President Leodegar Tenga, Secretary General Nicholas Musonye, Uganda FA boss Moses Magogo, Tanzania Football Federation chairman Jamal Malinzi and Football Kenya Federation President Sam Nyamweya.
Cecafa Challenge Cup was not held last year after Ethiopia pulled out as host nation at the last minute, citing domestic and international engagements. Cecafa thus failed to get a replacement, forcing them to call off the event all together.
