The Hollywood flick 12 Years A Slave in which Lupita Nyongo stars in, has received the most nominations for the 23rd annual Gotham Independent Film Awards.

Lupita has bagged a nomination in the Breakthrough Actor category where she will compete against Dane DeHaan in Kill Your Darlings, Kathryn Hahn in Afternoon Delight, Michael B. Jordan in Fruitvale Station and Robin Weigert in Concussion.

On her role as slave girl, Patsey, Lupita told LA Times,"Patsey didn't have the luxury of making her situation precious, so I felt I owed it to her memory to just roll up my sleeves and do the work. I wasn't ever truly rid of Patsey. From the moment Steve called me to offer me the part to the moment we wrapped — and maybe a few weeks after that — I couldn't sleep. The place I had to go emotionally, the intimidation of working with these actors — there was a lot going on in my head."

Also nominated was 12 Years A Slave in the Best Feature category while Chiwetel Ejiofor who plays the lead character, Solomon Northrup has been nominated in the Best Actor category.

The Gotham Awards ceremony will be held on December 2nd at Cipriani Wall Street. Nominees were selected by panels of film critics, journalists, festival programmers and film curators. Separate juries of filmmakers will determine the winners in six categories, while moviegoers will choose the winner of the audience award online.
