According to Dr Wincate Wangari, a nutritionist, there is food for the brain that can help with that.
1. Fish
Fish is good due to its Omega 3 however Dr Wangari recommended salmon as the best fish since it is low in fat, full of Omega-3, a fatty acid known to be highly beneficial to the brain.
“People should avoid frying the fish since the proteins will be killed,” Dr Wangari advised.
Opt for grilled or steamed fish which means the nutrients will be maintained.
It has Omega-3 which helps boosts memory and provide more oxygen to the brain.
2. Oranges
They have high amounts of Vitamin C which prevent brain cells from becoming damaged.
A study has found that Vitamin C can prevent Alzheimer’s Disease.
3. Coffee and green tea
Has caffeine and antioxidants which help in alertness, concentration and general brain health.
Green tea contains the amino acid L-theanine which can cross the blood-brain barrier and increase neurotransmitter activity.
4. Turmeric
The dark yellow powder has curcumin which helps in the growth of new brain cells and has anti-inflammatory effects.
Tumeric is also a good antioxidant. It can be added to drinks or food.
5. Nuts
Has Vitamin E, antioxidants and healthy fats that are beneficial to the brain and lower the risk of cognitive decline in older adults.
