Sex for dinner

Why does food and sex go together like a sausage in a bun? And have you already tried the Miso Horny Cod? … These news morsels and more in this week’s Sex in the Press.

THEM APPLES

Sex and food have been intertwined – like young lovers – since the beginning of time. Or at least since Adam took a bite from that apple Eve had picked up as takeaway.

(It turns out that Eve knew what she was doing: “Women who consume apples on a regular basis tend to experience greater overall sexual function, reporting higher levels of arousal and satisfaction,” according to ‘The "forbidden fruit" that makes women enjoy sex more’.)

Having sex and eating food light up the same parts of our brain. They also release the same chemicals that help us feel sparky and alive. They are basics. Like water. Like sleeping. Like oysters. Like champagne…

But one should not assume that food always leads to sex – even if a recent study suggests ‘Women more responsive to romantic cues on full stomach’.

ABANDON VS. RESTRAINT

“Restaurants are favourite places for dates not because they provide a shortcut to bed, but because the destination is made better by a companionable journey, or avoided altogether if the trip doesn't go well. So food is about sex only to the extent that sex is about love and friendship,” according to ‘Sex, pies and videotape: food and foreplay on film’.

“You can learn a lot about a person from the way he or she eats — about the extent of their physical appetites and the way they are satisfied,” according to ‘Bedroom via kitchen: What food preferences reveal about you and your romantic partner’.

Is your dinner companion a fussy eater? Or are they willing to try anything? Or do they stuff themselves on starters and therefore unable to make it through the main course?

“Dietary preferences reveal a great deal about how good a dancer someone is in the intricate dance between abandon and restraint, so essential in intimate relationships.”

So, sure it’s fine to count your calories. But you should also be willing to open yourself up to a particularly tasty morsel.

“An air of abandon must prevail sometimes, and if not at the table, then probably not in bed either.”

COOK TO BANG

But yes, some males just have one thing on their mind. The website

Cook to Bang – Recipes to Get You Laid

– featuring recipes such as Miso Horny Cod and Tap That Ass-paragus Soup – proved so popular that it was published as a book.

“It's the latest in a long list of cookbook titles such as

Win Her with Dinner,

Will Cook for Sex: A Guy's Guide to Cooking

and

Cooking to Hook Up: The Bachelor's Date-Night Cookbook, aimed at turning average Joes into kitchen Casanovas,” according to ‘How to wine, dine - and move her straight to the bedroom’.

"I kind of did the Cook to Bang thing … with a bunch of girls, but the real coup de grace with me really was Shannon," says Luke. “With her, [it’s] more of a Cook to Get To Know approach. Ultimately, if it's someone you want something more with, you're better advised to take things slow."

"It wasn't just about trying to get me in bed," said Shannon. "But I mean, it definitely worked. I was definitely digging it. Oh yeah."

And then one day, Luke and Shannon both got their apples.
