Rinsing rice removes excess starch. If left on the rice, the starch results in unappealing, gummy results.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup white rice
  • 2 cups water
  • 1/2 cup coconut milk
  • Raisins (optional)
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 tbsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp salt

Preparation

Step 1

Heat a sufuria over medium heat, warm the vegetable oil before adding 2 cups of water. Add in your washed rice and stir.

Step 2

Stir in the coconut milk, raisins and salt to taste. Then cover and bring to a boil over medium heat for 15 minutes. For best results, wash and soak the rice before cooking.

Step 3

You can remove the cover and cook for another 10 minutes.

Remove from heat and enjoy with friends and family over your favourite curry stew.
