With a few ingredients from your pantry, your food will be ready for serving within minutes.

The simple trick to getting perfect mashed potatoes is to start cooking them in cold water.

This ensures the potato cooks evenly.

Add warm milk or butter to prevent them from being lumpy.

Mashed potatoes benefit your health because they offer a rich source of potassium. But since they are high in starch, moderation is key.

Ingredients

  • 8 medium-sized potatoes
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter (at room temperature, cut into 4 pieces, plus more if desired, to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ cup whole milk

Preparation

Step 1

Peel your potatoes, rinse and soak them in cold water for 30 minutes. Add ½ tablespoon salt.

Step 2

Boil for at least 15 minutes or until tender.

Step 3

Once tender, drain the excess water in the sufuria and let them sit for 3 minutes.

Step 4

On the same sufuria, add the unsalted butter and use a potato masher to mash the potatoes. For best results, melt the butter before adding it to the potatoes.

Step 5

Now add ½ teaspoon salt, pepper, and half of the warm milk. Stir to combine and coat the potatoes.

Step 6

Taste and adjust the seasoning.

Serve and enjoy with bacon strips, pork, stir fried vegetables or beef.
