The Babambo clan has endorsed Senate Speaker Kenneth Lusaka to run for Bungoma governor.

More than 5,000 clan members held a meeting in Kimilili town on Monday where they endorsed Lusaka.

Clan chairman Musikiti Kusimba said Lusaka, during his tenure, invested in development projects that are still visible to date.

"As a clan, we are proud of Lusaka. We want him back to save us in Bungoma county. We are tired of the current regime, which has humiliated us," he said.

Lusaka urged clan members to rally behind him and help him win the governorship.

"I could be a running mate for a presidential candidate but the call to serve my people because of the numerous cries has made me want to come and serve them," he said.

"I started many projects that have been abandoned by the current regime. I need to come and complete all stalled projects."

Lusaka was Bungoma governor between 2013 and 2017. He was deafeated in the 2017 polls by incumbent Governor Wycliffe Wangamati.

Lusaka picked Hillary Chongwony from Mt Elgon as his running mate while Wangamati picked Charles Ngome from the Tachoni community in Webuye East constituency.

Lusaka used the platform to highlight a number of projects he implemented during his tenure, including the agriculture subsidy.

"I will increase the number of bags in the farm input subsidy, including seeds and fertiliser from 750 to 2,000. The current regime has reduced it to 250 bags," he said.

Lusaka has been cleared to vie on the Ford Kenya ticket, while Wangamati will vie on the DAP-K.

Others include Nairobi businessman Zachariah Baraza (independent), Kibabii University don Peter Khakina and former Communications Authority CEO Francis Wangusi (Kanu).
