Leaders and the public are pressuring the IEBC and police to explain what happened to the IEBC official who was found murdered  in Kajiado county.

Embakasi East returning office Daniel Mbolu Musyoka had been tortured. The naked body was found near Kilombero river in Amboseli National Park, Kajiado South, by herders who alerted the police.

He was the second high-high ranking IEBC official to die in the line of duty after the death of ICT guru Chris Msando in 2017, a few days before the election.

The reason for the killing has not been established; it could have been related to efforts to tamper with the tallying.

Musyoka's brother-in-law, Jackson Muimi and his sister Ann Mbolu told the Star he could have could have refused a bribe related to tampering.

Musyoka was reported missing on August 11 while on official duty.

Wahome Kamoche, former aspirant for Rurii ward in Nyandarua, said the disappearance and death of Musyoka should be a wake-up call to the IEBC and the security agencies.

Speaking in Nakuru, Wahome said that this will make competent Kenyans afraid of applying for the IEBC jobs.

“We can’t have people disappear and then find them murdered every election cycle.

"If tomorrow, my son gets that job as a returning officer then someone will kill him because of their personal interests, what kind of country do we have?” Wahome asked.

“Political interests should not supersede human life, and if we don’t say this now, it might get worse. Let me tell the government that its job is to protect lives and property, so if someone disappears because of an election, then that is dangerous for our country and for our families.”

Neighbours of the slain official described him as a humble, jovial family man.

Those who spoke to the Star said Musyoka, who lives in Lanet, Nakuru county is a God-fearing man.

Pastor Daniel Njuguna Kimani of AIC Umoja, Lanet, describes Musyoka as humble and committed.

"He was is a very hardworking and humble man. He never had any fights with anyone from church. We urge security agencies to get to the bottom of this and deliver justice to his family," Kimani said.

"On July 31, he requested the church to pray for him for the task ahead was enormous. We have been praying for him after it was reported he was missing, only to receive the news that he was found dead."

Martha Wairimu of Lanet described Musyoka as a selfless man who is willing to help anyone in need.

"Why should someone die every election year because of politics, last election it was Msando and this election it is Musyoka

"Why does it have to be this way? We are demanding justice be served for Musyoka," Wairimu said.
