Kisii Woman Rep aspirant Janet Ongera has confirmed receiving a direct ticket from the ODM party.
“It's been a long wait but worth it. I will hit the ground and hunt for votes,” Ongera said.
She abandoned her governor bid two months ago.
However, other Women Rep aspirants have protested the move saying it discredits the spirit of majority members.
Donya Toto, one of the five aspirants, said they were waiting for official communication and were deliberating the party's decision.
She wanted to contest on the ODM ticket and said they were not aware of the move.
“We paid for the nomination and looking forward to the exercise,” Toto said.
“For now it is not about options, we are still members, all we want is to press for fair nominations. It is never too much to ask party leader Raila Odinga to steer the party towards this direction,” she told the Star.
Toto had emerged second in a poll contest for the Woman Rep seat in the last general election.
She vied on the Jubilee party before decamping to ODM.
Toto comes from the Bonchari clan.
Giving Ongera a direct ticket appears to have overlooked the local clan dynamics where leaders vying for governor pick running mates and Woman Rep from other clans in a regional balancing matrix.
The matrix is seen in the context of the local leaders trying to satisfy each clan's political power need.
Ongera has since rubbished the clan matrix saying it is not anchored in the constitution.
The law of the land, she said, was blind to clan dynamics.
“There is absolutely nothing that will stop me just because some of my peers from my clan are going for governor seat. The party looked at my potential,” she told the Star on Wednesday.
