Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya Alliance presidential running mate Martha Karua and Agriculture CS Peter Munya have rallied Meru residents to support the coalition's candidate Raila Odinga.

Jeremiah Kioni (Ndaragwa), Kanini Kega (Kieni) and Sabina Chege (Murang’a), among others, who accompanied the duo asked Kenyans not to be swayed but fully back the Raila-Karua ticket.

Munya said he will support the candidature of Odinga and Karua to the end as he appealed to Meru residents not to be left out of the incoming government.

Karua said she has known Raila for many years since when they were fighting for the country’s second liberation, adding that the ODM chief has the interest of all Kenyans at heart.

"Kenyans should scrutinise the character of all the presidential candidates before casting their votes on August 9 general election," the former Justice minister said.

"Raila and his camp have no issue with any leader but it is up to Kenyans to decide on their destiny for the next five years. We ask for your votes with a lot of respect and humbleness.”

Karua said Kenyans have a democratic right to vote for a leader of their choice, adding that Raila has stood with Kenyans when he was in opposition.

She said she has also been out of government for the last 10 years but Kenyans can attest to the fact that she has been fighting for their rights even more than those serving in government.

"The combination of Raila and myself means the rights of Kenyans will be served to the letter,” Karua said.

Karua said her firm stand has helped her perform any task bestowed on her at any time.

"I have ever been serious, fearless and cannot be intimidated by anyone. Our main purpose for seeking the post is to clean up the country against rampant corruption and restore its lost glory," Karua said.

Munya said he had no ill-feeling despite the fact that he did not win the running mate seat.

"We were out hunting and, despite the fact that we didn’t get the elephant we were looking for, we have not come back empty handed and we appreciate what we have gotten,” Munya said.
