- The Azimio flagbearer said he knows how he will fund ambitious programmes in his manifesto.
- Kalonzo said Raila is committed to fulfilling all his election pledges.
Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya presidential candidate Raila Odinga has assured Kenyans he will fulfil his election pledges if he forms the next government.
Raila dismissed critics who have said he may not have the money to implement some of the programmes outlined in his manifesto.
Addressing a rally in Mandera on Sunday, Raila asked his supporters to treat with contempt remarks by rival Kenya Kwanza leaders that his programmes are unsustainable in the long run.
“The Kenya Kwanza, people are saying that I am lying. What I am saying I will do is a promise to all Kenyans. I will not break that promise,” he said.
The Azimio flagbearer said he knows how he will fund ambitious programmes in his manifesto.
“I have been Prime Minister for five years and when I tell you something is achievable, it is achievable.”
“I know where that money is and it is enough to run these programmes. I will seal all corruption loopholes,” he added.
Critics have been casting doubts as to whether Raila will be able to raise billions of shillings to finance some of its key projects listed in the Azimio manifesto launch on June 6 at Nyayo Stadium.
Raila has previously said he first intends to seal all the corruption loopholes and save the country some Sh800 billion lost through graft annually.
He has explained that the Sh6,000 monthly stipend for vulnerable families will be raised by weeding out graft.
On Sunday, Raila assured that education will be free from nursery through primary, secondary, tertiary and university “There will be no school fees again.”
He added that his social protection programme for needy homes and single parent mothers is also achievable.
His running mate, Martha Karua, asked Kenyans to vote for Raila if they want their lives to be uplifted.
“Young people, if you want sources of livelihoods and good life, vote for Raila,” she said.
Karua said Raila will be able to fund ambitious programmes since he will have sealed all corruption loopholes.
“We we will seal all corruption loopholes and use the money that is usually stolen by corrupt individuals to fund our programmes,” she said.
“I will be helping Baba to fight corruption. We also need your help to achieve this since the country’s wealth should be for all and not a few individuals.”
Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka said Raila is committed to fulfilling all his election pledges.
“There is a very serious commitment by Raila. He will not let down Kenyans if he forms the next government,” he said.
Kalonzo added that the Kenya Kwanza leaders should prepare themselves for a defeat in the polls.
“Kenya Kwanza should accept that they have lost it. We are looking for 15 million votes and more,” he said.
Raila further asked supporters of various parties within Azimio to work hand in hand to give the coalition victory.
“We do not want hatred in Azimio. We know we have ODM, Jubilee, UDM, Wiper, Narc Kenya and others but it is Baba and Mama contesting for the top seat on Azimio ticket,” he said.
He asked residents of Mandera to come out in large numbers to vote for Azimio.
Karua also asked the various parties in the coalition to work in harmony.
“It is a big house and we have many parties but our candidate is Raila,” she said.
